Realistic paintings by Tim Sali
I paint outdoors. My subject is before me, dimensional and dynamic. I’m in the shade but sunlight pours onto my subject, defining its contours with sharp or soft shadows. The painting is a laboratory for understanding how that light first paints the subject with its own particular palette, or wraps around it or bounces off of it. How shadows are, in fact, pools of reflection gathering the colors of the sky and other local participants. How colors sharpen or fade with distance.
Nature’s panorama is infinite in every direction but I have chosen just one facet to feature – maybe something as banal as a weathered and textured old stump. I’ll not over-prioritize this feature – the stump is part of the overall composition – not a catalogue item or a boxtop illustration. I’ll include some neighboring elements to accompany and situate it in depth. This space, from foreground to horizon, is essential.
Does the landscape painting, even for a moment, draw you in as a participant? If so, then maybe for you, it could be something more special than a simple wall decoration.

Je défends la peinture « sur le motif ». Le sujet est dimensionnel et notre perception aussi. Peindre dans un cadre magnifique qui respire avec le vent et qui subit à la dynamique lente du soleil qui trace son parcours au dessus, c’est très agréable.
Les séances sont limitées au matin ou au soir, car justement, le soleil bouge. Il faut travailler rapidement et efficacement, comme faisaient les impressionnistes. La spontanéité du geste dynamise et incite l’imagination de l’observateur. L’image produite est plus évocatrice.
Le panorama offert par la nature est à l’infini. Le peintre, comme un journaliste, se limite à exprimer le plus essentiel. Serait-il la vieille souche d’un olivier récurée par le vent ? Point focal du tableau, elle se situe dans la profondeur de champs. Elle partage la composition avec d’autres éléments complémentaires. Sinon, elle ne serait qu’un objet exhibé comme sur une page de catalogue.
Regardez donc un tableau de paysage. Est-ce qu’il vous transporte, même brièvement ? Est-ce qu’il vous fascine ou vous apaise ? Il serait donc plus qu’une simple décoration murale.
